How to make a powerful lead magnet/freebie

How To Make a Converting Lead Magnet/Freebie

September 15, 20233 min read

In this post, I’m going to explain to you how to create a compelling lead magnet or freebie that genuinely converts.

Why should you care? Well, in the digital era, lead magnets are one of the most efficient ways of building your email list, connecting with your audience, and driving conversions.

With an effective freebie, you can nurture your prospects, position yourself as an expert, and ultimately guide them down the sales funnel.

Unfortunately, while the idea of creating a lead magnet seems straightforward, many fail to make one that truly resonates with their target audience.

Misunderstanding the Audience's Pain Points

One of the primary reasons for this is that they fail to truly understand and address the audience's core challenges and pain points.

Other reasons include:

  • Reason #1: Using a one-size-fits-all approach without segmenting their audience.

  • Reason #2: Not offering value but merely repackaging easily accessible information.

  • Reason #3: Complicating the lead magnet with jargon or too much detail.

  • Reason #4: Neglecting to promote the freebie effectively or place it prominently on their site.

But don't lose heart! I’m here to guide you on how to overcome these challenges and design a lead magnet that genuinely works.

Step 1: Deeply Understand Your Audience's Needs and Pain Points

Understanding your audience is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT.

Remember, nobody wakes up in the morning and says:

"I need a coaching session or a consulting session"

People don't buy services, they buy a solution to their problem or pain point.

So make sure you understand exactly what the pain point is so that you lead magnet does not come across as too general.

For instance, if you're targeting new mothers, offering them tips on "10 Sleep Training Methods for Babies" can be more valuable and specific then "Why you want your baby to have a good night sleep" 😒

Step 2: Offer Unique and Actionable Solutions

The pitfall many fall into in this step is merely repackaging general knowledge.

Even Nick Browne has this as his #1 mistakes of a lead magnet in a recent post.

Nick Browne tweet on lead magnets

Instead of offering generic tips on "How to Lose Weight," provide a unique perspective, like "Intermittent Fasting for Night Owls: A New Approach." Dive deep into why traditional methods might not work for night owls and how they can tailor intermittent fasting to their advantage. This will allow you to showcase your expertise, build trust and credibility.

Step 3: Keep It Simple, Clear, and Actionable

Here's the good news: clarity can lead to actionable results.

Ensure that your lead magnet is straightforward and devoid of jargon. If you've prepared a checklist on "SEO Best Practices," make sure each point is clear and actionable. By following these steps, readers will not only understand SEO better but will have tangible actions they can take immediately to boost their site's ranking.

By the end of it, with a well-constructed lead magnet, you're not just providing information; you're offering a solution, building trust, and paving the way for a lasting relationship with your audience. So, start crafting your perfect freebie today!

TL;DR

To create an effective lead magnet/freebie, understand your audience's core challenges.

  1. Avoid common pitfalls like a generic approach or repackaging general knowledge. Instead, deeply know your audience's needs.

  2. Offer unique actionable solutions, and keep your content simple and clear. Done right, a lead magnet can build trust and foster a lasting relationship with your audience.
